Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine until the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." The moment I outgrew any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's case it was the nudge of the drama instructor at her high school which pushed her in the right direction. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. Following a trial, she ended up as the main character of Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian of the season 1 actors of the series and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
