In the year 2009, Selena was cast in her first film in show business, playing Gianna as Barney and her Friends. This meant she was among several children to play alongside Barney, the well-known human-like pink dinosaur. Selena worked on several episodes in seasons 7 and 8 between 2001 and 2003. Interesting fact: Demi Lovato, who was part of Barney's Friends during that time too, also worked with Selena. Following the end of the show, Selena Gomez auditioned for several roles on other shows and movies, but she was not much success. After leaving the series, Selena auditioned for a variety of roles in different film and television shows, but did not have much success. The film also gave her the role of Emily Grace Garcia in the 2005 Brain Zapped program for which she wrote a song.
